Polka Tent - who's playing? what are they about?

Hello reader. This is the first of several posts about the different stages at London Remixed Festival '13 and, more importantly, the artists making them shake.

There is lots and lots of detail on the main site, but we thought we'd give you links to our favourite tunes by each artist (wherever possible) and the views of some of those workin' at LRF '13 hq; which is on Davy Jones's mistress's ship, business barge JUDITH.

There is a lot going on, see full monster line-up here, so it's difficult to know where to start...

..buuuuttt, it's COLD tonight. Some of you, might even be shivering. Who else shivers?? Pirates me' hearties. Where do pirates hang out? At the good ship POLKA TENT...let's start there then...
                                                                     ....hosted in the theatre space at RichMix by...
                                                                                                    the indelibly red n white,                                                                                                                                           bee lady of the night
                                                                                                    with a musical sting stingier than a nettle                                                                                                                   M I S S   P E N N Y METAL.

//Seas of mirth

see what happens to pirates when they're based in the east midlands, away from water, and in the east midlands. belly-slapping, gun-totingish party folk.

The Mayor of Matlock has called them "OK" and what more of a ringing endorsement could I possibly hope to give them.

listen to this.

//Gentle Mystics

signed to a proper independent london-based label Emerging Species, gentle mystics whip mutant forms of their many influences into something old and new, scary and fearless, uncomfortable and banging, resisting,
and resisting triteness, anti-maudlinists and - an unpredictable smorgup of electronic, dub, brass, psychee poetically wotsits, wotknots and wothops. Stillness cracked up and off, the music squirms, and you'll writhe.

Mayor of Matlock* says, "Are they squatters? Get them off. Away. Now!"

here they are on the Boomtown Fair 2013 main-stage. I want to hear mushroom 3000 live please.

//Tantz

Tantz = klezmer for dance ;-)

//Maniere des Bohemiens

gripping a drenched shoulder, you're not sure if it's wet with beer, sweat or both, you're beer flies out of its inadequate vessel, it arcs onto the furiously playing violinist's nose, he looks at you, time stops, you cower aaaaaaaaaaaand then he plays furiouslier, your beer sails off upwards again, joins more beer a few feet above you and turns into a shower. you look at your hands, you are a prune. what shall we do with the drunken sailor. make him dance and drink more.

Mayor of Matlock says, "I hope they'll clean up after themselves."

//Ghetto Plotz

cartoon klezmer electro hip hop. stamford hill. midday, blazing heat, again. it's hot in the shtetl. air-conditioning units shuddered to haltz 3 months ago. ongepotchket crowds have gathered on every street corner, children fight for shade under the elders' hats, boychicks, heavy from gold, drink from brown paper bags. the shout of ay-yay-yay goes up, the ghettoblaster clicks on another driving tune. women, boychicks, girlchicks, men and dogs roll around on the floor, laughing and/or dancing, in a seamless seemingly endless loop. women, boychicks, girlchicks men... seemingly endless loop.

a man presses pause on the ghetto blaster "stop, stop it. stop it else I'll explode." his hand is brushed aside. press play. the rolling continues. the man explodes. this is the ghetto, we're all about to plotz!

Alter cocker Matlock says, "Oy vey".

*Mayor of Matlock is now a fictional character. All hail Mayor of Matlock. Thanks for joining us and giving us your opines.

Look out, there's a monster coming! London Remixed Festival 2013 line-up announced

Neither Sinbad, nor Ray Harryhausen (creator of awesome film monsters) himself could have pictured the monster line-up that is London Remixed Festival 2013. Gawsh!

It's huge. It's a proper monster. Look above, the human, strapped to a tree about to be snapped up, manages to avert his inevitable mauling by reasoning with the approaching fairly scary pretty massicve monster that there is a far greater, scarier, more badass monster just behind him. OMG.

That monster is London Remixed Festival 13. It's massive. It's bulk is difficult to focus on right now, it is the blue-grey background. It is like the sky, but massiver. It's going to deliver you, like the human in the pic, from all the banal pseudo-monsters moping around, giving half-hearted growls, that sound more like a cry for a help than our monster's mind-melting roar of total sound. You are the human strapped to the tree. It will save you. It is massive and badass and we can't wait.

We have been staring at this monster for sometime and we can describe it to you. For it is time.

But first. Look, listen. The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band, being privy to the finest, newest, time-telescopes, sang a song about London Remixed Festival 2013 in 1967. Hard to believe it, but we love it. Thanks Viv.

Glastonbury // Shanri-La // Hell Stage // and the rest :o))))

Hell stage on what could have been any night post mi'night!

 It's difficult not to gush about Glastonbury, because even though it comes with lots of frustrations both as a punter and as crew

 - the clutch in my car broke on the way! several glass hammers were lost and we're still looking for Tofu's umm hat

there is simply no other festival which has so much creative thought, time and effort  poured into it, somewhere which remembers it's roots but can come up with something for everyone - whether it be dark alleys filled with strange, fetid creatures from some Shangri-La's artists' broken melonS or wellies, the pyramid stage and bare strongbow.

Tofu, Continental Drifts and Global Local are a proper part of this  mind STAGGERIN' area. OI OI! Here are some highlightsssssssssss....

Global Local and London Remixed Festival bands smaaaashed it. You represent Shangri-La more than any BBC act (even though they're good, don't get me wrong, and we love havin em) Can't wait to have youz at LRF 2013..
Wara and Cal (Movimientos)

Afriquoi  (chek out Andre's mix of all that he saw at Glasto - http://www.mixcloud.com/wearebigchill/bobby-gandolf-a-journey-through-glastonbury-2013/)

Wara

Cut A Shine

Gypsy Hill

Slamboree

The EngineEarz

Sam and the Womp

Trans Siberian March Band

Perhaps Contraption

Cal Jader

Perhaps Contraption in the zone :=)

After midnight the Hell stage came to life (unlife?) with tons of pyro..it felt like a pit of squirming human worms ready to do whatever the horned devil mc told em. it was great! so we put on a load of bbc artists including the likes of rudimental and diplo.

chek out the videos below..

Rudimental:   http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/ej58q9/acts/adnq2m#p01c4kjj

Look at the crowd! It's making me tingle.. probably just heat rash to be fair!

See you next yeaaar!!
