Their eponymous first album draws inspiration from Rembetika - 1920s and 30s Greek blues music, bringing these songs up to date with a contemporary rock line up of electric guitar, bass, drums, bouzouki, oud and violin.

Working with world class musicians Tom Skinner (drums), Hassan Erraji (oud and violin) and Pavlos Melas (vocals), their collective performing experience stretches right around the world, from small intimate spaces to Glastonbury and major European venues.

Hello all.

So far we have given you such delights as Los Chinches, Sheelanagig, AJ Holmes and The Hackney Empire and now we give you.....

POLINA SKOVORODA & FANFARA

With trumpets, saxophones, clarinet, baritones, helicons and percussion Fanfara play brass band music for dancing. They regularly play with Roma musicians from Serbia, Romania and Macedonia and have studied in Cuba with carnival brass musicians. In August 2010, the band together with Polina were the first ever UK performers at Guca Trumpet Festival, Serbia. Under the guest direction of Russian virtuoso vocalist Polina Skovoroda, they blend traditional, revolutionary, and dancing songs with fast and soulful brass band music.

Born in Siberia, Polina learned music as a child around the family table. Now an internationally renowned singer of Russian and Yiddish song, she performs with an explosive mixture of powerful rhythm and profound melodies. Traditional yet modern, she brings the songs of the Steppes and the Shtetl up to date with passion and haunting soul.

How is everyone? We are back in the office this morning, working hard to make London Remixed Festival the best night on this years calendar!

Firstly though we are introducing the next sexy act on our even sexier line up;

AJ HOLMES AND THE HACKNEY EMPIRE


From the depths of Hackney come a band that are taking over the world with the unique Afro-pop sound of The New Electric High Life. They are A.J. Holmes & The Hackney Empire. This six-piece are destroying everywhere they play, the ultimate Afro party disco machine. Born in Barking & Dagenham in the industrial far east of London, A.J. Holmes discovered a love of playing African music through a chance meeting with his Hackney neighbour. Folo Graff, a legendary musician from Sierra Leone, taught him to play the pan African guitar style. While in Berlin A.J. met les Beaux Gosses de Berlin, one of the congos finest African Rhumba bands, who quickly grabbed him to join their 20-strong band. Learning to rock the Afro Pop guitar style, A.J. became obsessed with the good time sounds of Sierra Leone and The Congo. Back in his native London he started DJing, soon teaming up with white-hot electro producer duo, Radioclit (M.I.A., The Very Best, Amadou & Mariam). United by their love of African club music and worldwide Ghetto tropical beats, he joined the Secousse Sound System DJ team. Since its birth in 2007, the Secousse club night has become an infamous tropical riot of good times and air horns reviving London's tired and lifeless club scene. Recruiting a party starting band of Hackney locals all sharing a love of tropical sounds, the success of A.J.'s early shows saw him invited by Radioclit to become Secousse club's resident house band. Once there, the ensuing chaos on the dance floor left no ass unshaken and month after month saw guests blown off stage. The band's special blend of Afro pop with a home grown British sensibility has become one of London's best-kept secrets until now. Support slots with David Byrne have followed along with collaborations with some of London's finest African musicians from Palm Wine legend, Abdul Tee-Jay to Nigerian grime star, African Boy. 'Fraudian Slip', produced by Radioclit is the debut release on Ghetto Bassquake, the acclaimed tropical dance music blog run by London's Vamanos and Oakland's Chief Boima, The single is a raucous energetic track featuring vocals from Secousse's resident MC, the Congolese Mic terror, Kastro.

Folk-gypsy Fusion

Sheelanagig have been honing their eclectic blend of folk, jazz and world music since early 2005. Equally at home on festival stages, music venues and street corners, the band have developed a devoted following with two album releases and a hectic touring schedule. Blistering live performances have made Sheelanagig festival favourites across the UK and into Europe, and caused dancefloor mayhem from the Scottish Islands to the South of Italy. The five members of Sheelanagig bring a wide range of musical backgrounds to the band’s unique sound, and are united by their commitment to energetic performance with the highest quality instrumental music.

So here is our first info section on our AMAZING artists we have at London Remixed. We are very very VERY happy to do our first biog on LOS CHINCHES so here you go all our lovely little Remixers

PSYCHEDELIC AMAZONIAN CUMBIA, JUNGLE SHAMBALA WITH ADDED JUJU

Los Chinches are London's number one exponents of Chicha music. Chicha (named after an Andean corn-based brew) is a hybrid of Colombian Cumbia, psychedelic rock scene in the UK and USA and Peruvian psychedelic Amazonian grooves.

Los Chinches interpretation of Chicha music is very much their own, with backgrounds in many musical styles from rock n' roll to jazz to Latin, fusing London's punk attitude and spirit with timeless Amazonian vibes. Their sound and live performance is a psychedelic burst of energy driven by a fierce frontline of percussion.

Since forming in 2008 they have quickly gained a following with shows at the Barbican, the seminal Arriba La Cumbia night, and at Camden’s Green Note Latin Festival. Also rocking shows at Lovebox, Secret Garden Party and Bestival in 2009.
